The Case Against “Joe The Plumber”

Written by Rick

Samuel Joseph Wurlzelbacher, now widely known as “Joe the Plumber” entered the public eye on October 13th when he walked up to Barack Obama on Joes own street and asked him a question about his plan to raise taxes. The answer Obama gave has become a target theme of the McCain/Palin campaign and has proven to be very embarrassing for Obama. While on one hand Obama claims he does not regret giving the answer he gave, he spends a lot of time denying that what he said was his intent, spread the wealth, is not what he plans to do.

On October 15th “Joe The Plumber” was cast further into the public eye when his new name came up more than 23 times during the Presidential debate.

by October 18th the nation knew just about all there was to know about “Joe The Plumber”. That he wasn’t a licensed plumber, didn’t make over $250,000 a year, owned an SUV, was a single father of a boy, how much his house was worth, his SUV, and much more.

Computers that are only supposed to be accessed by authorized personnel and only for authorized reasons, such as an investigation requiring the information requested, were accessed to obtain just about everything there is to know about “Joe the Plumber”. There is no known investigation. So why were these computers accessed for the information and how did the press get it? What information wasn’t accessed from these computers was gladly suppllied by entities such as a plumbers union that had already publicy endorsed Obama.

The newspaper, The Columbus Dispatch,  reports that shortly before the debate, Wurzelbachers drivers license/sport utility vehicle information was accessed from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles three times.

Within 2 hours of the completion of the debate, his information was accessed by the Ohio State Attorney Generals office (but not the Attorney General herself), a Child Support Agency, and even the Toledo Police Department.

Who accessed the computers at these locations has yet to be determined, which makes this all the more suspect. Seems a lot of people were quick to look for dirt on Wurzelbacher after he embarassed Obama, but someone is sure being very slow at finding out who those people that abused the system are. People who not only accessed the information for unauthorized reasons but then released it for public dissemination.

The media even knew information that could only have been obtained through viewing voter registration records, Wurzelbachers brief association years ago with the Natural Law Party. The press took that up and made quite an issue of it.

Strange isn’t it. This same press has completely ignored Obama’s connection with the New Party despite the lies told regarding this connection.  ( Obama and the New Party Connection )

“Thirty-five years ago, a group of Plumbers did the same kind of thing in a presidential election, and it changed American politics forever.  This smells of the same kind of Nixonian tactics.” ( Ed Morrissey, How did people get dirt on Joe the Plumber? )

It is a sad day when a citizen of the United States has their whole life released to the public just because they dare to question a political candidate. It’s even sadder that the investigation to discredit him took only one day where the investigation to find out who was behind it drags on.
